I wrote a piece for HD Video Pro on PROMETHEUS some months back. It was supposed to be in the May issue, but one of the interviewees didn't vet the piece till it was too late, so it didn't run till the current (July) issue. A lot of this stuff has been covered elsewhere, but i don't think anybody else talked with Fluent Image, which handled a lot of the tech workflow issues on the film. I don't understand 1 tenth of what you're saying but it sounds cool & elaborates on how the 3D was handled. I loved the visuals and the 3D was good but after about 45 minutes I mostly forgot about the 3D, not a slight on the 3D, it's just that my brain wasn't registering it as standing out after awhile. Maybe because I was so into the story I guess.

3D is a tricky thing, in one respect it should enhance but distract the audience, but at the same time the directors want to smack you over the head with it just because of the new technology that has been evolving.

I really couldn't SEE the 3D effect in this film. Maybe it was my theatre, or the projection method, or my own glasses (I'm near sighted) but the 3D effect BROKE on fast-moving scenes. It just broke, such that the left eye and the right eye weren't getting enough data during fast scenes. Slow scenes rocked, that opening ruled. But the silica-storm, that FELL APART, visually. I couldn't see ANY 3D-ness, it was all just vectoral static noise, no direction to the flow.
